Serving as a leader in the Leaders of Tomorrow speech program has been an incredible experience that has helped me grow both personally and professionally. While my role was to guide and support participants, I found myself developing just as much, particularly in areas such as communication, leadership, and adaptability.
One of the most rewarding aspects was seeing the transformation in the students, particularly those who were quiet or hesitant at the start. In one session, a few of the more reserved participants were reluctant to speak. But by the end of the program, they were raising their hands, sharing ideas, and even volunteering to do a short improv speech! Witnessing that positive shift in engagement and knowing the supportive environment we built to help make it possible was a standout moment for me.
From a professional perspective, this experience also strengthened my leadership and public speaking skills. Leading sessions taught me how to engage a group, adapt on the spot, and create space for every voice to be heard. I learned that being a leader isn’t just about giving direction, it’s about listening, empowering others, and leading by example.
For anyone stepping into a leadership role, my tip to them would be to patient, stay approachable, and never underestimate the impact of positive reinforcement. Small moments of encouragement can lead to big breakthroughs.
Overall, Leaders of Tomorrow reminded me that leadership is about giving you a chance to be another person, the importance of helping young voices find their confidence, and the value in creating inclusive and empowering spaces.
